Super Eagles and AS Monaco forward has revealed the real reason for rejoining Galatasaray during the January transfer window.

The 22-year-old rejoined the Lions on loan until the end of the season without an option to buy after struggling for game time at AS Monaco following his summer switch from Premier League club, Everton for £12.5m.

In a live chat with brila.net in Lagos on Monday, Onyekuru said it was his decision to return to the Turkish giants in order to get enough game time.

“I had explained to the new coach Moreno, who actually wanted me to stay but I told him  needed to go somewhere else, clear my head and have some playing time,”

In his first stint with Galatasaray, Onyekuru featured in 31 league games, scoring 14 goals to help them clinch the 2018-19 Super Lig title.

The player also confirmed that Galatasaray tried to extend his loan deal but he already knew Monaco will not accept the proposal.
