Serena Williams has withdrawn from the French Open ahead of her second-round match against Tsvetana Pironkova. Serena pulled out of the tournament due to an Achilles injury she sustained during the US Open a few weeks back.

The American tennis star was spotted on the court on Wednesday as she prepares for the meeting Pironkova, but a late scan showed she won’t be able to compete.

Williams became into with Achilles’ problem and was able to record a 7-6 (7-2) 6-0 first-round victory over Kristie Ahn.

“I always give a hundred percent and everyone knows that, so I take solace in that”.

” I think Achilles is a serious injury you don’t want to play with because it could get worse,” she said in the news conference.

The latest developments are a set back for the 23-time Grand Slam champion who is chasing a record-breaking 24th Grand Slam title.
