Nigerian midfielder Joe Aribo could be following his former Manager Steven Gerrard to Premier League club Aston Villa.

According to former Scottish International Frank McAvennie, the Gerrard could be interested in signing one of his most trusted players at Rangers and believes the player could be  Aribo.

Gerrard was appointed new Aston Villa manager last week following the sacking of Dean Smith, who has moved to Norwich City.

The former Liverpool Captain took Aribo to Scotland, after the expiration of his contract with Charlton Athletic.

The 26-year-old midfielder made an instant impact at the Club and players crucial role in their league triumph last season.

“There are a few players who could make that jump (from Scotland to England), I would be very surprised if Gerrard didn’t sign at least one player from Rangers,” McAvennie said.

“I look at the squad and I see a few players who could do it. Joe Aribo stands out for me.

“He’s young enough and has the talent to go down there and do well.

“Aribo could add that spark to the Villa midfield. They have a lot of quality players but they are struggling to create.

“He could definitely follow Gerrard and it would be a brilliant move for him.” He said.

Aribo is currently in the camp of the Super Eagles preparing for the FIFA World Cup qualifying game against Cape Verde.
