Coach Gernot Rohr has explained why he pleaded with Odion Ighalo to come out of retirement and help the Super Eagles.

Ighalo returned to the team on Thursday, after calling it quit with international football three years ago.

However fans and journalists frowned  against invitation of the 32-year-old Al-Shabab forward — suggesting that, his return could stall the development of the young forwards in the squad.

Fielding questions from journalists on Thursday, Rohr refuted the claims and stated that, Ighalo was recalled, because of his experience.

The Franco-German tactician stressed that, the former Manchester United forward is motivated and ready to help the team.

“Ighalo wanted to stop after the 2019 AFCON, he changed his club and wanted to spend time with his family but now the motivation ishere for him to comeback and help us.

“We have a very young team, we have Musa with his experience but we need another one with his experience, professionalism which can help the young players.“
