Betting glossary

The words you'll meet on a Nigerian betting site, in plain English.

Asian handicapA bet with a half-goal or zero handicap that removes the draw. Prices are usually lower-margin than 1X2.

Bookmaker marginThe edge built into the prices. See the margin guide.
Cash-outAccepting a reduced return before the event settles. Priced by the book, usually expensive.
Decimal oddsTotal return per unit staked, stake included. 1.85 returns ₦1.85 for each ₦1.
Draw no betYour stake is returned if the match is drawn.
Each-wayTwo bets in one: a win bet and a place bet, usually on outright markets. Costs double the stake.

Fractional oddsProfit per unit staked, stake excluded. 17/20 means ₦17 profit on ₦20.

Implied probabilityThe chance a price implies: 1 ÷ decimal odds.
LegOne selection inside an accumulator.
OverroundAnother name for bookmaker margin — the total implied probability above 100%.
Over/UnderA market on whether the total goals or points will be above or below a line, e.g. over 2.5 goals.
PushA void leg or bet, usually because the market settled exactly on the line. Stake is returned.
SingleOne selection, one bet.
Stake not returned (SNR)A free bet where the bonus stake is taken back if you win, so you keep the profit only.
VoidA bet cancelled and the stake refunded — typically a postponed match or a withdrawn player.
